"Businesses in the UK on average waste 30% of the energy they buy." Action Energy

As the cost of power has recently increased, businesses will need to conserve as much energy as possible to keep costs to a minimum.

How to Reduce Energy Consumption

There are various actions that businesses can do to reduce their energy consumption and costs:

Start from now; take a walk round your buildings, do an energy survey and identify areas where energy is used. Use the information below to help you take action. The Carbon Trust have produced 'A practical introduction to reducing energy bills' which is a free publication checklist that is divided into sections to help all sizes of organisations save energy and money. A printed copy can be ordered by contacting the Environment and Energy helpline on 0800 585794.

The Carbon Trust provides free surveys to organisations with energy bills greater than £50,000 per year. Energy-saving opportunities are identified and practical advice on how to achieve these is provided.

Renewable Energy

The Renewable Energy Centre is the first of its kind in the UK and is targeted at both the consumer and business markets. It provides introductions to the key areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency as well as a comprehensive directory of specialist contractors and suppliers in various energy sectors.

The Renewable Energy Centre website pulls a wealth of information into one central online location and also provides;
  • Advice on technology choices and installation
  • Links to community organisations and government contacts
  • Information on sources of funding and grants
  • A diary of UK and International conferences and exhibitions
