Highways Consulting - Heat Pump installation
Highways Consulting specialises in the preparation of tender documentation, tender responses and the subsequent management of contracts relating to highways.
For a number of environmental reasons, the company wanted to have a ground source heat pump installed to heat the 200 sq metre office building. They already had a ground source heat pump which heated two holiday cottages and were very impressed with its performance and running costs. As the office barn was near a field, it was easy to find a place to lay the ground loop pipework.

Company owners Simon and Jo Hopkins spotted York and North Yorkshire Business Environmental Forum (BEF) in an advert:
"We wanted to have a ground source heat pump installed for a range of environmental factors, including reducing carbon emissions and the possibility of powering the 1kW required to drive the pump from a wind turbine, thus removing the need for external electricity completely. We were also attracted to the fact that its fuel prices were comparable in price to oil which is the cheapest form of energy where there is no gas supply.
"We had tried to access environmental funding in the past for some of our holiday cottages but it proved impossible.
"BEF helped us to access the vital funding that we needed. They have been brilliant. They knew how to tackle all of the relevant hurdles along the way and we would definitely go to them in the future.
BEF provided Renewable Energy grant funding through the 'exploiting the advantages of environmental technologies' scheme. The grant scheme enabled eligible businesses to access up to £4000 of match funding to purchase and install renewable energy technologies, including solar panels, photovoltaics, geothermal, wind and water power, fuel cells and energy crops.
The BEF funding programme is supported by the European Regional Development Fund and Yorkshire Forward, and is managed by Business Link York and North Yorkshire.
