Integrated Pollution Control (IPC)
To be replaced by PPC
Together with the Environmental Protection Act of 1990 these directives form the
UK wide system for pollution control in industry. The legislation states that any person undertaking a prescribed process must have permission from their environmental regulator and comply with their regulator's conditions.
Pollution Prevention Control (PPC)
This is the
UK directive replacingIntegrated Pollution Control (
IPC), under the European Directive
IPPC.
PPC implements
IPPC in the
UK and builds on the principles of
IPC and
LAPC. The legislation remains essentially the same with all industries undertaking any of the prescribed processes having permission from regulators and complying with their conditions.
The Environment Agency will regulate the
PPC. Local Authorities will regulate
LA-IPPC (Local Authority
IPPC) and
LAPPC (Local Authority
PPC).
