As an Environmental Business support provider, BEF delivers a number of projects across the county. These include:
Community based organisations in England can now apply for grants for renewable technologies through the Community Sustainable Energy Programme managed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE). The scheme is designed to raise public awareness of the social and environmental advantages to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions in order to combat climate change.
Who can apply?
Grants are available for eligible not-for-profit community based organisations in England. This includes:
What can be funded?
Two types of grant are available: capital and project development. The maximum Capital Grant available is ?,000 or 50% of the project cost (whichever is lower). The maximum Project Development Grant available is ?,000 or 75% of the study cost (whichever is lower).
Capital Grants are available for the purchase and installation of any of the technologies listed below:
Project Development Grants are available for studies investigating the feasibility of installing renewable technologies. BEF is currently working with GYMC, a community interest company based in Grimsby to provide a full project development study for their new community building.
Project Development grants will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis until all funds are spent. Capital Grants are awarded on a competitive basis at quarterly selection panel meetings.

Businesses in the city centre area of York can join the 'York Green Business Club' to learn how they can adopt environmental friendly business practices and save money. The 'club' is made up of regular seminars where businesses and organisations can attend to find out how to take action. Seminars focus on Environmental Management including Waste and Recycling; Energy Efficiency; Water Efficiency; Supply Chain; Packaging Waste; Transport and Sustainable Procurement.
The club is run in partnership between the Business Environmental Forum and City of York Council
The aim of the group is for businesses to demonstrate their commitment to the environment, to increase the image of the city and ensure it remains a popular and attractive place to visit and work. The group also provides an excellent opportunity to network and share good businesses practices, and collectively ensure less waste is sent to landfill and less carbon is emitted to the atmosphere.
